Reason(s) behind the name "Walley"

Both, Elwyn and I wanted to give our puppy a really unique name. It's our first puppy together as a couple, so why not? But, we didn't spend too long thinking of a name. Elwyn and I have such similar taste; name-hunting was easy. So here it goes:

We both loved the movie WALL-E! The concept of the movie was very interesting but more than anything, WALL-E, the robot in the movie, was really cute and funny! We have watched the movie several times since it's release. So, we both looked at each other and thought WALL-E would be a really, really unique name for our puppy."WALL-E" though, just as I have typed, didn't seem too appropriate for a puppy name. We liked the way "WALL-E" sounded but not the way it's spelled out with a hyphen. Then, it suddenly occurred to us, why not take off the hyphen and add a "y" at the end, making the name "Walley"!! That would sound like "WALL-E" and give our puppy a really cute name too. It was perfect!! We both liked the name instantly and there were no second thoughts after that!

Just for fun, later on, we Google-searched the name "Walley" to see if it had a meaning. The name "Walley" does have a meaning and a really nice one too!! "Walley" means "Ruler of the army". The name is of German origin and it's a "male" name which is perfect because our puppy is a male too:-) Golden Retrievers are amazing sporting dogs! Being the great swimmers that they are, and the fact that they were originally bred to hunt, made us think: a name that meant "Ruler of the army" definitely would be appropriate for this sporting breed. Well, even if Walley doesn't end up becoming "Ruler of the army", we can already bet he'll be "Ruler of the family" for sure :-) Everything fit in well now and we were happy that we found a name, we thought was both unique and appropriate for our adorable Golden Retriever puppy. Besides all of the creative thought-processing that went into our cute puppy's name, we liked the ring of the name "Walley" when linked to our names too! Elwyn, Shilpa & Walley- sounds nice, eh?:-)
